| | excess of 'good' stress will tear your body down. The key is balance. Mental Stress (whether conscious or subconscious) drives the adrenal gland to react. This causes powerful chemicals to be released that eventually break down the body.
Are You Toxic? Does Your Body Need Cleansing?

 | | Is your Brain 'Foggy' because of toxicity and How does that work?
|
Toxicity does cause the 'foggy' mentality. Think about it. If you were in a room where there was not enough oxygen or too many irritating fumes, the focus of your whole body would be to get more good air to breathe. This happens on a smaller scale within our brains. If your blood is toxic or oxygen-deficient for whatever reason, it will focus only on meeting that one basic need. Also, if the blood, your brain's nutrient river, has too high of a concentration of irritating or interfering chemicals in it, the nerves cannot communicate well. Think of it as a puzzle. Brain nerves communicate with chemicals. If there is a toxic chemical, it will prevent the normal chemicals from getting to where they need to be to tell the other nerves what is going on or what to do next. How do I get rid of this brain toxicity? A 3-week cleanse is the approach I recommend for most people. This almost always works. Listen to the testimonials online (or get the Intro to the Cleanse CD)
 | | How does what you eat cause toxicity of the mind?
|
"You are what you eat" is very true. We will get into this more in the Chemical Toxicity page, but here's a start.
- Blood sugar imbalances wreak havoc on the mind. You become like an animal driven to get your next fix.
- Not enough of the good foods will result in compromises in building or rebuilding of your brain. For example, a 1994 study in the
American Jour. of Clinical Nutrition found that Breast-fed infants score better on visual developmental tests compared to bottle- fed infants and this was related to higher amounts of essential fatty acids (DHA) in the blood and in their BRAIN.
- Also, if you understand how the intestines can dysfunction, you can see how even good foods may be harmful to some people.
The reason is that poor digestion and leaky gut absorption cause larger food particles to be presented to the immune system in the blood stream. Your body sees it as a foreigner and attacks. That is appropriate, but it may start an immune cycle that cannot be properly controlled.
How do I prevent what you are eating from causing toxicity of the mind? Start with Eating correctly: Returning to Quality Food. But that may not be enough. Lab tests can reveal what may be causing your food to intoxicate you. The testing usually involves:
- Triad Profile, a blood and urine test that measures many chemicals to determine what deficiencies, toxicities, and
delayed food allergies you have.
- Stool Analysis tests your bowel stool to determine what exactly is living in you and in what proportions.
- Intestinal Permeability Test measures your urine chemicals for 24 hours after drinking 1 chemical ( sugar) that
SHOULD be absorbed and another that should NOT be absorbed.
 | | How do intestinal problems cause toxicity of the mind?
|
This is more well-elaborated on in the Digestive Problems page. The short story goes like this:
- The over-activation or chronic high activation of the sympathetic (Fight or Flight) stress
response part of the nervous system causes slowing of the digestive function. That makes sense, right? When we are trying to deal with a serious issue that we need to flee from or fight about, we need to use the blood flow and nutrients that would go to our intestines to work our heart, lungs, brain, and muscles. So, you have a neglected intestinal tract. If it were just a passageway tube that would not be a problem, but it is MUCH more living and dynamic than that!
- This intestinal neglect, or slow-down, leads to altered function and weakening of the
gastrointestinal tract, form the stomach all the way to the rectum. That results in
- altered pH (acid-base balance) which allows bad bacteria and yeast to proliferate,
- irritation and damage to micro-villi (the hair-like extensions all over inside the
intestinal wall) which limits their ability to properly digest (by enzymes) and absorb the food and nutrients. This is key! These little villi are the work-horses of the intestines. They are the enzyme factory and storage facility. Without them stuff just sits around to be digested by the bacteria.
- Oh yes, bacteria. Normally, we have 3 pounds of GOOD bacteria in our
intestines. If the pH is off, the wrong stuff start growing more. This is like weeds in the garden. It takes proper nurturing to maintain growth of the good stuff. The weeds will grow in the worst circumstances - -that is the stressed-out malnourished intestines.
- This excess of bad and paucity of good bacteria results in lots of bad bacteria
poop (potentially toxic chemicals including Casomorphins from Milk/casein and gliadomorphins from gluten grains/gliadin, among other chemicals.
- With weeds (bad bacteria and yeast) overgrowing and villi damaged, leakiness
often develops.
- So, you've got bad chemicals the we produce right in our own bodies and leaky
holes in our intestines to allow the bad chemicals to leak right into our blood stream. That is a bad combination. If there is too much leakiness, too many bad chemicals, or if the liver is not well-nourished and prepared enough to handle the increased load, all the body organs will be exposed to this onslaught.
- The Casomorphins gliadomorphins are morphine-like opiods !! Do you think
that will make you a little foggy? But it will also make you addicted to the very thing that is so detrimental to you.
How can keep my intestines from causing toxicity of the mind? Start with Eating correctly: Returning to Quality Food. This will nourish your intestines, your mind, and your liver to be able to handle the toxic load.
 | | Can my THOUGHTS make me MORE SUSCEPTIBLE to toxicity?
|
Absolutely. The Mayo Clinic mentions the conditions below as being strongly related to stress. My comment is in red: * Heart disease - Free radical damage (toxins) and the associated inflammation are clearly related to heart disease. * Sleep problems - It's easy to understand how stress causes sleep problems. We don't know exactly how sleep problems cause other diseases and increased risk of death, but they do. * Digestive problems - Stress significantly slows down the digestive process. We have a sympathetic (fight or flight) and a parasympathetic (rest and digest) parts of our nervous system that are always in balance, optimizing body function. The mental stress leads to an excess of sympathetic (fight or flight) activity. This excess slows down digestion and affects acid production, by either increasing or decreasing acid in the stomach. This leads to worse digestion and absorption of the food you eat and a greater likelihood of bad bacteria and/or yeast overgrowing in your intestines. (To learn more, see Digestive Problems.) * Depression - How many of you make MORE Positive choices when you feel down? We are LESS likely to eat right, exercise, drink healthy, etc. when we are depressed, even a little. This is a Bad, Bad part of the poor health, toxicity cycle. * Obesity - Yes, stress contributes to obesity. This seems to be related to the sympathetic (fight or flight) excess also. The body goes into a preserving 'mentality' when stress is chronic. We were designed to react to stresses and then relax for a bit. It seems that living in the present is much more the way we were designed. In fact, the Bible addressed this long before we understood the physiology. (Matthew 6:34 - Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.) * Memory impairment - * Worsening of skin conditions, such as eczema -
How can I reduce my susceptibility? Of course, the easy answer is always, RELAX. Specifically, you can start with the Relaxation Response and Progressive Relaxation exercises. And beyond that, Consider some great resources for the mind.
