My name is Dr. Jay Hobbs. In the 11 years since I

specialty of chiropractic neurology. (I say
'complete', but I will continually pursue more

We frequently see patients after they have
returned from a UC hospital or Sansum in Santa
Barbara. If their method of medications or
surgery is not the answer for you, there is not
much they can do. Those are excellent places,
but they use different methods than we use. That
may be surprising at first, but think about it. If you
are doing a job around the house that you need a
hammer for, a drill just will not do.
Two patients that we recently started treating
come to mind. One had bad equilibrium problems
that continued even after MANY years after an
auto accident. She would fall over if she looked
up! That doesn’t happen to her since she has
been treated with chiropractic neurology
techniques. The other patient has Multiple
Sclerosis (MS). MS is a progressive nerve
disease, meaning it will get worse eventually. This
patient responded immediately after the first
treatment with less pain and more strength. Her
disease did NOT go away, but her body is working

How Does Chiropractic Neurology Work?

helps the body work better. Specifically, brain
nerve activity is restored to its more normal level
by specific methods (described later). What does
the brain have to do with Headaches, Numbness,
etc? Well, the nervous system is the master
system of the body, and the brain is the master of
the nervous system.
Why don’t regular medical neurologists do the
same thing? Well, we all want the brain and
nervous system to work better, but we have
different methods of getting to the goal.
Methods Chiropractic Neurologists Use
We have chosen to use natural methods to
support the body’s natural function and to remove
the barriers that would stop normal function. The
simple answer is we use all the sensory input
available that we think will be most useful.
Sometimes the tools are very unique, like
optokinetic tape or interactive metronomes.
Sometimes it is a very common tools used in very
unique ways, like our hands to do coupled
reduction adjustments or fast stretch of muscles
all on one side of the body to activate only one
side of your brain. Another very important part is
specific exercises for specific parts of your brain.
To say it simply, the brain works better, and that
