Brain Quiz:  Do we have more brain connections than
there are leaves in the Amazon!?
There are FAR MORE leaves than there are brain CELLS.  But, there are about the same number of
brain cell
connections and leaves in the Amazon.  But if you said more leaves than connections, you
are
most accurate.  Your brain is the hub of your nervous system. It is made up of 100 billion nerve
cells - about the same as the number of
trees in the Amazon rainforest. Each cell is connected to
around 10,000 others, although each is only DIRECTLY connected to several.  So the total number of
connections (direct + indirect) in your brain is the same as the number of
leaves in the rainforest,
about 1000 trillion.  An indirect connection is like me saying I'm related to all the past presidents of the
United States.  Of course, if you research through to relatives of relatives of relatives, you will find that I
am related to EVERYONE in the whole world, almost!

Well, that was a neat little trick, but how can it help you?  Interesting of you to ask.  We now know that
more brain cells seem to be able to develop even after full maturity.

"The fact that you might be able to take small molecules to stimulate specific cells to regenerate the
brain is paradigm-shifting," Mayo Clinic neuroscientist Christopher Eckman told Technology Review.
"[This approach] takes advantage of the body's innate ability to correct itself when given appropriate
cues."

OF COURSE, THE BIG MONEY IS LOOKING INTO WHAT
DRUGS WILL CAUSE BRAIN CELLS TO
REGENERATE.  That's OK, but my money and time are being spent on how we can naturally stimulate
the brain to give these "cues" for regeneration.  Guess what?  They are there and available fro
signaling  because there is a possibility to natural signaling.  Most likely it won't be complicated and the
approach will not be patentable.
